Mr Barron, \viio hae been on a ibrip tjo England returned to Gisborne on Wednesday, Constable, Irwin is at present off duty suffering from an attack of bronchitis. The members of the Gisborne Bowling Club met in the pavilion yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to the late secretary of tlie club, Mr. 11. E. Dodd, who is about to leave for Napier. The President, Mr. W.' Pettie, in a few well-chosen words proposed the health of Mr. Dodd, who lie had known, lie said, for many years as a member of the club. Mr. Dodd bad been, on the committee for eighteen months, and had acted as secretary for six months, and during the whole time he had been a member ho had been most popular with all the members. Mr. Pettie mentioned that he had 'known Mr. Dodd for thirteen years. When he first met him Mr. Dodd was the junior in his office, but had since worked himself up to second in command. He asked Mr. Dodd to accept as a token of the esteem in which ho was held by members a handsome liqueur stand. Mr. J. W. Bright supported the President, and took the opportunity of introducing the newlyielected secretary (Mr. C. H. Ambridge) to members. Other members also spoke, the opinion being expressed. that Mr. Dodd would be an acquisition to bowfiing in his new home. Mr. Dodd responded in. a-few feeling words. Messrs J. Sheridan and C. Buscke are at present on a visit to tho Coast towns. On Wednesday Mr. C. Penman, recently with Mr. C. iMor.se, left for South en route to Palmerston, where he is to go into .business on bis o-wn account. Prior to bis departure a number of bis friends met in Mr. (Morse’s saloon, and Mr. W. Murphy, on behalf of those present, .presented Mr. Penman' with a- travelling hag as a token of their esteem.. The latest Gazette notifies the appointment of Mr. George Boreham as Trustee of the Tolaga Bay Cemetery Board, in the place of Henry Goodlev, resigned.
