Press Association. ' PAHIATUA, Dec. 9. Tlio 20-months’-old infant- daughter of Alfred Mace was drowned through falling -down a well. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 9. William Joseph Gamble, a middleaged man, sexton at To Henui cemetery, committed suicide by cutting bis thloat last night. He had been confined to bed with kidney complaint. The nurse left him comfortable about T 2.30 a.m. A. few minuutes later she heard a noise, and proceeding to the room found himwith a terrible wound made with a razor, which apparently had been concealed under the mattress. NELSON, Dec. 9. A man named George Marshall was found dead near his residence at Ngatimote yesterday morning. No further details are vet available. ASHBURTON, Dec. 9. Last evening tlie body of a man named George Cochrane was found ill an advanced stage of decomposition in a hut at Elgin, Wakanui, about four miles from Ashburton. The case was evidently one of suicide, as a gun containing a discharged cartridge was found lying with tlie muzzle pointing "Towards the body, and a box of the same kind of cartridges was also in tlie hut. Deceased was a single man, about 30 years of age, and had lived all his life in .Wakanui district. . All his relatives reside in -the vicinity. An inquest will'be held. A young man named Andrew Harris, engaged in Mount- Somers coal pits, got his right foot badly crushed while engaged in his work on Thursday. -He was removed to Ashburton Hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the injured limb at the ankle joint on Sunday. DUNEDIN, Dec. 9. Charles Henry Fordham, aged 15, died suddenly at North-East Valley yesterday. -He had been an invalid for three years, and caught a cold a week ago. ASHBURTON, Dec. 9. At an inquest touching the death of Geo. Alfred Cochrane, the jury returned a verdict that deceased met his death from a gunshot wound, and that there was no evidence to show how such was inflicted. * -They were satisfied that there were no suspicious circumstances.
