Tlie Commercial Banking Company officially informed the Premier that the Bank could not accept Fir!iament’s terms for advancing money to the. Lithgonv ironworks. Mr Sandford also wrote to Mr Wade that the Bank had called upon him to pay the full amount of overdraft. An officer of tlWßank takes posessiou to-day. The whole works, except the blast furnace, will be closed. There is great anxiety at T Thgow, as practically the whole town is dependent on the works. It is hoped Government- ami Parliament will come to the rescue to prevent tie works closing. DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER WHO HOPES TO SAVE THE INDUSTRY. ' (Received Dec. 9, 9.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 9. .A deputation, representing the whole of the interests in the Litbgow district, interviewed the Premier, to ask the Government to use efforts towards evolving m scheme to prevent the; closing of the ironworks. They urged the importance of conserving a national industry, and the disaster threatening the district and a- large bodv of workers. Mr. Wade, in reply, said, lie realiscd the serious effect upon the'Sitate that the closing of the works would have. The Government was fullv in sympathy with the deputation, -but required time for anxious thought to see a way ouit. He hoped that in a few. days something would I>p evolved to save the industry and place it on a lasting footing.
