DESTRUCTIVE BLAZE AT MARTON. Press Association. MARTON, Dec. 41 The second big fire within the las* month broke out at Marton about 2 o’clock to-day, totally destroying J. M.. Ndcol’s shop, refreshment rooms, and bakehouse, and the premises of B. C. Goebel, fruiterer and’, produce merchant, J. Milligan’s, crockery and ironmongery, and Max Bornhold, jeweller (shop and dwelling). The water supply was cut off temporarily, and when the brigade got- to work Nicol’s building, where the fire started, • was a mass of flames. Tlie brigade worked splen- , -Plf and saved several adjoining buildings. _ Insurances are: Nicol’s stock, £250, in tlie Allinnce; shop owned by Mrs. Nicol, sen.. £3OO, Liverpool, London, and Globe office: Goebel’s stock, £SO, N.Z. office: shop owned by A. H. Sutcliffe, £3OO, ni Ln-erpoo.!, Loudon, and Globe:' Milligan's stock, £250, Commercial Union; shop owned by A. H. Sutcliffe, £SOO, Liverpool, London, and Globe; Jlornhold’s stock and furniture, £530, State office; shop and dwelling, £4OO, in tlio N.Z. office. DWELLING DESTROYED AT ASHBURTON. ASHBURTON, Dec. 4. A new five-roomed liouso ire Hampstead, valued at £260, owned, by Mrs. Susannah Tasker, and occupied by J. Reddingtou, was completely destroyed by fire last night, nothing being saved. The house was insured for £165 in the State office, and the furniture for £75 in the Norwich Union office. NAPIER PREMISES BURNT OUT NAPIER, Dec. 4. A fire broke out about 9.30 tiffs evening in the upstairs portion of J• 51. Phillips’ confectionery premises, Hastings-street. The fire haff a good hold when discovered and Phillips’ place was gutted, and of his furniture and stock very little ", as saved. _ Rice (confectioner)'. Prebble (.fruiterer), and Hannah (boot- importer), all lvad their stocks damaged by crater, while the upper poAion of Rice’s shop was also gutted. Phillips’ furniture, 6tock, and shop fittings, etc., were insured for £4OO, and his household furniture for £IOO, but his loss will be about £7OO over that amount. Mr. Phillips and his family were away ait'an entertainment when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is unknown..
