Interviewed to-dav as to the progress of the Piako Swamp drainage ■works, Sir Joseph AVard-stated that there are 50 men now employed cutting channels and drains. Two spe-cially-constructed Priestman dredgeE fliave been cabled for to. England to cut a channel 15 miles long, from the mouth of the Piako to the .. aitakaruiu, and the works will he energetically pushed on under the supervision of Air.
