The condition of Mr. J. Cannon, recently badly injured at Tolaga, allows 'little change. Dr. Do Olivo Lowe, of Auckland, arrives to-morrow to make an examination of him by means of the Rontgcn Hays. Or. 10. S, Brett, lately resident surgeon at the hospital, leaves tomorrow morning for Napier, where ho assumes duty as resident surgeon at tho Hospital. , Tho Italian Consul at Wellington is advised that His Royal Highness Prince Augusta. Ruspoh has left Italy on a tour which is to include New Zealand (says a Press Association "‘Captain J. E. Westrup, an old identity in shipping circles, died at his residence, Wellington, yesterday morning (a Press Association wire states). Deceased was born m Nelson in 1850, and went to sea when he was ten years old. About 35 years ago Captain Westrup gamed ids master’s certificate. In his time ho served as captain of several sailing vessels, and for nino years was well known as skipper of the steamship Waitapu. Ho had been with the Paten Shipping Company since its inception, and was also a shareholder.
