A prisoner named Archibald Campbell McKenna, undergoing four years for rape, escaped trom Hauluor last evening. The Industrial Arbitration Court sat at Blenheim this morning to bear an application by th 6 Earm Laborers’ Lnion for an award fixing the hours, wages, and conditions of casual farm labor, particularly harvesting. Everything was agreed to except preference. The Court is now considering that question. CHRISTCHURCH.
The folloM-ing awards liavo been mad 0 by the Royal Humane Society: —Rangi Norman, a schoolboy, ,13 years of age, and E'riti Pahuita, a .Maori, for attempting rescue of a Maori girl from drowning at Papa-u-ai, Greytown, in April, bronze medal ; Maria Tame Macfarlane, for rescuing a man named Charles Frighley from drowning a,t Kiwita'lii, in •January last, silver medal; Edward Haughey, aged 16, for rescuing a girl named Lilian Jane Fisher from drowning near the Barbadoes-street bridge, Christchurch, on December 10, 1906, a letter of commendation; George Edgar, dairyman, of Lyttelton, for rescuing a schoolboy named John Fitzsimmons from drou-ning in Lyttelton harbor on December 10, 1906, a letter' of commendation; Setwyn TTios. Ellingham, 15 years of age, for rescuing two boys named R. J. Dowsing and C. H. Dousing from drowning ait Auckland on March 22nd, bronze medal; Clarence Sheridan, lo years of age, of Blenheim, for rescuing a lad named William ITall from drou-ning on October 2, 1907, bronze medal; Henry William' Sclnvass, a railway servant, for rescuing a girl named Selina j. Bishop from drowning at Nelson on January 16, 1907, a. certificate; John Alex. Corrie, for rescuing 'a boy named James Sullivan from drowning at Lyttelton on September 17, 1907, a commendation; 4 Miss Jean Donaldson, matron of the Walthaan Orphanage, Christchurch, for rescuing a number of children from fire on October 6, 1906, gold medal. DUNEDIN. A ballot at Dunedin Central for the election of members of the New Zealand Bowling Association Council resulted:—President, Mr. Allnutit, Dunedin; vice-president, Mr. •J. Broun, Canterbury; treasurer, Mr. F. R. Smith. Six members to form a committee were selected; but it M as decided not to disclose tlio result of tho ballot until other centres had voted.

This is the first bankruptcy here since July.
