ENGLISH PRESS COMMENTS

(Received 6.49 P-m, Nov 28) SYDNEY, Nov 28. English files contain comments on +,lio match between the New Zealandors- and Broughton Rangers. Tho Chronicle says that after tlio hardest test the New Zealanders liaa bad against Northern Union Clubs, they beat the Broughton Rangers by 90 to 14. A faulty piece of play by tbo Rangers’ backs left an opening, anil in a trico W. Wynyard was over +ho lino, Messenger converting a fine <rnal That reverse appeared to stir •the Homo' team, and following some really dexterous passing Hardynuui

beat all tlie opposition suid scored, tho place-kick failing. Nor was this alt, for encouraged by the cheers ot tbo spectators the Rangers attacked again, ami brilliant efforts by lLri.v and Mottrnm ended in another try, a goal resulting. R. Wynyard then scored two tries quickly for the visitors, and Johnston just before the interval flashed with superhuman energy over the line. Messenger added the goal. It was the Rangel's’ turn to have tho help of tho wind, ind grandly thoy made uso of it. For a long time the New Zealanders were on tho defensive, and otfsido tactics led to Barlow placing two goals for Broughton. Half an hour elapsed oro tho colonials got a chance to cnhanco their score, a penalty for ibstruction providing the medium, lot this addition did not givo them any further opportunity of try-getting, and after the Home team had increased tlm total by a penalty goal the game finished, tho teams fighting quite on level terms. Having achieved success against the Rangers many anticipated that tho colonials would 1)0 more than a match for any club m the Union. , The Telegraph says tho Rangers were ono of the crack Lancashire teams. Tho colonials showed brilliant work in the open, and it was noticeable that all points scored against them were tho result of broken rules with which they were still very unfamiliar. It was thought Broughton would thoroughly test their strength, but tho colonials had the better of the play, and ill fact were much the better team.
