WAIHI EAST GOLD MINE.

AN EXPERT'REPORT. Mr Shaw, representing the Wai'lii East GoSd-rMining Company, recently returned from a short visit to Napier, where he secured a number of share-holders. In answer to -a query firom a “Times” reporter Mr ■Shaw said:—“Your question is a na.fcural one and many people ask it. The big Waihi Company has not taken up the claim we hold merely because we have been in continuous occupation. The company made an application for the land, but it was found when the Warden investigated the matter that we lxeht the .right, to the land.” As numerous enquiries about the property have been received from the many sharchoJderf? throughout the Dominion the following report on the property has been procured from Mr Thos. Johns, an experienced Waihi mine manager “As requested I herewith . forward a report on the Waihi East and Peer claims. These claims are situated on tho eastern boundary of the weH'l-khown Waihi Company’s mine, and on the southern boundary of tho Gladstone mine. The trend of some of tho reel's /and leaders i.ll both of these properties is going in the direction of the Waihi East claim. On the greater portion of the ground tho andesite rock rises to the surface. This I Take to be the continuation of tho auriferous belt of country rock which exists in the Waihi Coy’s area, and any reef or leaders intercepted in this belt of country rock, if struck in tho Waihi East ground, would, I ant of opinion, contain payaiue ore. The Sitveirton reef to all appearances will traverse through the claim. Thus rectf wheii worked upon by the ■Silverton Oompany produced * rilch ore; therefore it may be expected that when this reef is unearthed in the Waihi East claim, similar ore will also he obtained. In tho claim there is another outcrop of a very, large reef, some number of feei being exposed. It looks hard and flinty on the surface, but wheu depth is attained on it I am of opi-. nion that a better class of ore of r a pajuble quality will v.xist. Tee advantage this property has pot is ■that the andiesite rock rises + o the surface, .which is a most i..ipi,>m-nt ■matter in the way of development work, as it saves the cxt>-Mse of si-nfoaig th.rou.glli the overlaying matter of rhyolite and pumice, which has been the case in other >.urls of the district before the old andesite .country rock is reached. Hie area of the claims being well .-ituitod in regard to the prospect of getting ore bodies, and the advantage it has got in other respects, I ini of opinion that, if the property is thoroughly tested and developed, it will prove to be a gold producer and a remunerative one.”
