PERSONAL.

Mr. Sainsbury, of Messrs Blair and Sainsbury, left for South last night. The following are visitors at the Masonic Hotel: Messrs H. Blackraann, AV. Angus, It. M. Raymond, Alec. Ross, AV. B. Colemanj L. H. T'ingey, A. AV. Hazelwood, W. B. Crowliurst, H. F. Gibbons, S A. Busby, G. Coop, S. K. AA'hite, G. A. Miller, L. AV. McGlashan. At last night’s meeting of the Hospital Trustees the resignation of Dr. E. S. Brett as house surgeon to the Hospital was accepted as from Wednesday next. Mr. AY. Donald, local representative of the Labor Department, left for Napier last night, for the purpost of bringing up Mrs. Donald and the family. Miss E. Morgan, lately in the millinery department of Adair Bros.’ establishment, left for Napier last night. Mr. AA r . T. Gordon, who for several vears has been private secretary to the Hon. Air. Carroll (wired our AYellington correspondent yesterday), .was to-day married to Miss AlcColl, sister of the chief engineer at the city electrical power station. At yesterday’s meeting of the County Council a letter was received from Air. A. Tuohy, asking that he be not appointed a trustee of the Hospital. He stated that after twenty years’ service he felt entitled to a rest. The Chairman said Air. Tuohy had been a very valuable member. On the motion of the Chairman, the resignation was accepted with regret. At noon yesterday the County Council held its annual meeting, the chief business being the election of chairman. Before leaving the chair Captain Tucker thanked the Council for its kindly attitude towards him for the past five years. During that time all the woi'k had been carried on smoothly. It had been a pleasure to assist at the Council’s deliberations. It reflected great credit on the Council that such a lot of work had been done. The Clerk then took the chair in order to receive nominations for chairman. , Cr. Alatthews proposed Captain Tucker. Cr. Kenway seconded the nomination, and Cr. By soar also supported it. As Captain Tucker’s was the only nomination he was unanimously re-elected amidst applause. On December 22nd Alessrs AVi Friday, Itewai, Hiki, F. C. Long, and Koliere, students at Te Ran College, will be ordained by the Bishop of AVaiapu. Air. Koliere will stay in Gisborne, Air. Long will leave fof’ AVaiapu, and Alessrs Friday, Rewai, and Hiki for Aloliaka, AVanganui, and Hawke’s Bay respectively. Last night Air. J. AlcCredie left for Wellington to consult a specialist regarding an affection of the eyes. Alisses Bruce and G. AI. Evans, Alesdames Evans and Bruce, and Alessrs AA r . Bruce and J. T. Eva is are to arrive in Wellington next Tuesday by the lonic from England.
