VOTES OF THANKS TO HAIM) 'WORKERS.
Tlio recently-passed Gisborne Harbor Bill was mentioned at yesterday’s imeobing of tho Harbor Board. Mr Lysnar made a abort report. Ho said that Wiaiapu was included under the new Act for all payments in reap cot of old loans. Tlio Native land clause was the only one which lie would like to have seen extended. It only took in land in iso by natives or leased. Ho wished to see the clause made applicable to all native land just ready Mr occupation. He had been assured by the Hon. Jas. Carroll that the matter -would bo adjusted in a general Ast dealing with Native rating. This would be in operation before they wished to r-aieo a rate. One tiling which had gono against tlio Bill was that in was in the hands of the Local Bills Commiititee room July to early in November. It was only reporeted from committeo about a week before tlio closo of tlio session and many compromises bad to be accepted. Tlio Hons. Carroll and Millar bad worked hard for tlio Bill and he moved that a resolution be passed than king them. Mr Mia.tithewsou seconded tho motion. He felt sure that had it not been for tho efforts of these two gentlemen tho Bill would never have come out of the Local Bills Committee. , Mr Sievwright said lie would not now witliold thanks from those nbo had worked for tho Bill. Ho thought, however, that much more benefit might have been gained had they waited for a year. Tho motion was carried. Mr Lysnar moved that a cable be sent to Sir John Coode and- Coy. stating that the Bill was _ passed. Before the report was received nothing could 'be dono. The chairman said that they had reported recently that the work be done at an early date. \Mr M-atthewson moved a vote ot thanks to Mr Lysnar. It was undoubted that the success of tho B’lt was largely due to liis efforts. Mr Hepburn seconded. He thought the Bill would never have been passed but for him. , Mr Harris spoke in similar terms.
The motion was carried. (Mr Lysnar said lie had only done his duty, as ho was of opinion that an outer harbor was an absolute necessity.
