SCHOOL SPORTS.

A POPULAR AND SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. SEVENTY EVENTS CONTESTED. The Waeronga-a-hika College Grounds presented a brilliant and animated appearance yesterday, on tho occasion of the Schools Sporta mooting. There -was a big muster of young folk, from the sturdy year-old down to the little toddler. Parents and friends of the children were also present in large numbers, and the gathering included some of our foremost citizens, who did all in their power to make tho day onjoyable lor the children. Mr. J. Kinder had charge of the arrangements, and was ably assisted by a large and -willing band of helpers, and under their guidance an exceptionally long programme of 70 events was got through in an exjieditious .manner, finishing shortly before 5 o’clock. Some of the races were keenly contested, and the championship events, for which a cup is awarded, aroused great interest, and the finishes were close in each of the three distances, 100yds, 440yds, and SSOyds, and thoy wore respectively won by J. Jobsoiij J. Price, andß. Hill. It is hard to overestimate either tho physical or the moral value to the young people of gatherings of this kind, creating as they do a spirit of friendly rivalry which is calculated to make each boy or girl strive -after -alid attain better results. Special trains were run to the grounds in tho morning, anti conveyed a great proportion of tho people, and many took advantage of the brilliant day to enjoy a drive to the scene.
