BOWLING GISBORNE CLUB. Tlioro was a largo gathering of bowlers on the Gisborne green yesterday afternoon, when a number ol i<amcs were contested. Results:—— Handicap Fours: Boulton, Johnston, Seymour, and !W. Pettio 1/ v. Maekrell, Malcolm, E. Pettio, and Eure 25. Kyme, Crawford, Harris, and Ambridgo 20 v. G. E. J. Elliott, Wooton, E. Lewis, and Gaudin 19. Ordinary games: Colobrook, Bullock, Burton, and Witty 18 v. McKee, Owen, Dyer, and Bain 23. Lawless, H. Lewis, G. Miller, and Clarkson 15 v. O’Meara, Hagan, Cussen, and Redstone 24. Lucas, S. Burton, Neale, and Crawford 16 v. T. Robertson, -Morgan, Houlihan, and R. Rohortson 17. Elliott and Dodd 15 v. Coull and Hookey 14. TUP.ANGANUI CLUB. On the above club’s green some good play was indulged in, three rinks being in" use. Tho green was rolling splendidly, and excellent shots were played. . The members are showing steady improvement, and should ho in good form for tho tournament. Entries close to-morrow afternoon for the list of entrants desirous of representing the club at the Auckland tournament. It is expected tho club will bo strongly -represented. Entries for Handicap Pairs are to close on tho green on Thursday next.

The Taruheru team- to play Wanderers on Saturday will lie picked from the following:—Dr Collins, Lasker, Hodge, Murphy, Young, Charles Roderick, Mawhiney, Sharpe (2). Ivenway, Wilkins, Clarke, Mason and -Matliieson.

FOOTBALL.
NEW ZEALAND AGAIN DEFEATED. United Press Association —Copyright LONDON, Nov. 20. In -the -football match, Leigh scored three goals and three tries, New Zealand’s score being three goals and one try. Leigh led at hilt'-timo by seven- .points to four, and held a big advantage until the last -minute, when the New Zealanders scored.

THE BOOKMAKER AND SPORT. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON. Nov. 21. During the course of his speech on tho Gaming and Lotteries Bill, Mr. Wilford said that evidence was given before tho committee on the Bill that at a hunt club meeting in Canterbury £SO had been’offered by the stewards to r. bookmaker to come down and lay the odds. Mr. Witty: When was that? Mr. Wilford: The evidence was given before the committee. ” Mr. Witty: It must have been 20 years ago. Christchurch has not had a hunt club meeting for two or three years. Mr. Wilford: A good job, too. (Laughter.) Mr. Gray handed Mr. Wilford a letter, which he read as follows: “Orari Sports Club, April 27, ’o7. Tho Secretary Bookmakers’ Association, Christchurch. Dear Sir,—We are prepared to let you the sole right of betting at our forthcoming meeting on 'the 9th May. for £2O, exclusive of gate entrance, amount to be paid before races start. Kindly advise if you will accept these terms -and oblige,' yours faithfully, E. O’Malley, secretary.” Mr. Witty: That’s got nothing to do with the bunt club.
