GISBORNE AUCKLAND STOCK ROUTE.
ITS ACCOMPLISHMENT URGED. A 7 'IEAA r S OF THE FARMERS’ UNION.
Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. In tlio course of an interview today upon Farmers’ Union matters-, Air. ,G. J. Garland, provincial secretary .of i(ho Union, referred to the need for t-lie establishment of proper overland connection between Auckland and Poverty Buy. At present the overland joUrney between- Rotorua amd Gisborne is scarcely negotiable. Some two years ago Air. ■Garland moved in the Auckland Chamber of Ciomimerco that steps dio-uld be taken to induce the Government to edtiablisli a stock route between Gisborne and Auckland. The matter has now come before Parlia'mer.it, amd in view of tho implointance- of such overland connection Air. Garland contends that every effort should he made to assist the Farmers’ Union, in impressing upon repi'esentative-s in the House the need oif its accomplishment. At present- Poverty Bay is practically nimble to. send any of its Stock into the Auckland province, and all broken-mouthed sheep are boiled down, wihtireias if they could he driven overland into the Auckland district they would meet with a big demand.
