CONCERT AT TE KARAKA.
Tho Presbyterian congregation of To Karaka spent an enjoyablo time last evening, whon a public tea and entertainment in aid of tho church building fund eventuated in tho local hall. The weather was favorable, but owing to tlio river being somewhat in flood, and tlio impassablo condition of the cutting, the attendanco of outside visitors was iiardiy so largo as nevertheless there was a fairly largo assemblage. Tlio tea passed off very well, under tlio supervision of the ladies of tho congregation. For the evening gathering tho Rev. Mr. Walker presided. Ho gave an encouraging report with reference to tho new building, towards tlio erection of which a loan was being obtained from the Church Extension Fund at 2 per cent. He niado the suggestion that somo of tho well-to-do settlers .who had enjoyed several prosperous seasons might considor tlio advisalbloness of making a thank-offering in the shape of donations towards Church funds. The programme submitted was well selected, and the appreciation of the audience was signified in the call for encores, which lack of time alone .curtailed. Among the visiting contributors were Mrs. (Dr.) Collins, Miss Cuff, .Miss Redstone, Messrs. A. Gray, Griffith, and W. J. Barlow. Local vocalists ,were Miss Bousiield and Mr. Gray. Tlio accompaniments were played by Mrs. Grey and Mr. Sutcliffe. At the close the Rev. Mr. Walker thanked the .performers and all who had assisted. He tendered thanks to Messrs. J. H. Ormond and P. Mortinson for conveying the .visiting vocalists from town and. back by motor car.
