CELEBRATIONS AT HOME. United Press Association —Copyright LONDON, Nov. 10. Tlio King’s Birthday was celebrated throughout the Empire. Sir R. Solomon, on behalf of the Transvaal, presented the Cullinan diamond to His Majesty the King at Sandringham.
King Edward directed Lord Elgin to cable to tho Transvaal Ministry that ho accepted the Cullinan diamond as a token of the loyalty and attachment of the people of the Transvaal to his throne and person. He would preserve the unique jewel among the Crown heirlooms. He was much pleased at tlio Ministry’s cordial congratulations accompanying tho gift. LONDON, Nov. 11. Tlio chief feature of the Lord Mayor’s show on Saturday was Louis Parker’s historical pageant of “The Edwards of England.” There were no colonial features.
Mr Lamb received a Companionship of St. Michael and St. George for services at the reception of colonial Premiers. Sir Charles Tapper, cx-Premier of Canada, has been created a Privy Councillor. LONDON, Nov. 11.
In the annual review of tho international situation made on the King’s Birthday at the Mansion House banquet, Sir H. Campbell-Bannerman admitted that the results of the Hague Convention were disappointing, especially tho non-arrest of military 'armaments. He acknowledged that he had been over-sanguine. It was desirable to know the rules and principles governing the international prizo courts before asserting them. He referred to the treaty with Russia as an addition to the great securities for the peace of the world. He .indicated that the Government would firmly preserve order in India, while freely tolerating discussions not openly subversive to order. They intended to see the Government of the Congo put oil a footing resembling that of colonial territories administered by other nations, and in accord with treaty obligations.
