CRIME IN AUCKLAND.

OPENING OF CRIMINAL COURT. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 11.

Tho Auckland Supreme Court cniminal sittings opened to-day with 37 prisoners involved in 30 cases. Mr. Justico Denniston, in his charge tio the Grand Jury, said' that on the whole a substantial amount of crime was represented in the charges, but there was 11 0 reason to assume that crime was on tho increase in the district, as -no very serious charges were sot down except a case in which a Maori woman was charged witli murdering her husband. It was gratifying to note that there were only two sexual cases, and those against Maoris. Sentences imposed were: George Horsecroft, Thames, six months for forgery; Hugh Wilson, aged 43, theft of money, admitted to probation.
