Press Association. AVELLINGTON, Nov. 7. At the Presbyterian Assembly today the Treasurer presented the annual statement, which showed all the funds were in a most satisfactory condition. It was stated thero was a large balance to credit of the China Alission fund, which would warrant tho Church making a forward ruorenicnt in that direction. A discussion took., oliace in reference to the beguest of £IOO left for the Presbyterian Orphanage, which it was proposed to pay to tlio Dunedin Presbyteri in Orphanage until tho Assembly should otherwise determine. The Rev. G. Mnnro urged the claims of Auck’and. Eventually it was decided to retain, the legacy on behalf of the Orphanage funds. A fraternal . letter was received from Bishop AVall'is, of AVellington. A report was submitted ou the state of religion, and giving answers to questions submitted by the Committeo to ministers Tho Theological Committee’s report, stated that 25 students attended during the session, and that tlie receipts exceeded the expenditure by £o4 6s. Reports on aged and infirm 1 111 ulsters’ funds were adopted, showing: South fund, capital last year £lO,012, income for year £1323, outlay £367, nresent capital £10,398; North fund, capita] last year £6926, income £919. outlay £587, present capital £7258. „ , , tYblows and orphans’ funds showed : North, capital last year £lO,777, income £1035, outlay £l9l, present eauital £11,621; South, capital last year £13,843, income £l2Bl, outlay £BSO, nresent capital £14,224. The following .were appointed on Church Courts: Revs. P. J. Riddle, J. AT. Fraser, J. O. C. Cosh, Smith, and D. A. Anderson. Air. Miller is to continue another year as home missionary at Alotukarara, Canterbury: Atr. Rull. at Paten, till June of next year; and Air. J. P. Bathgate at Helensville.
A letter conveying greetings and congratulations was received from the president of the Primitive Alethodist Conference.
A “A'outli of the Church” evening took place -to-night, there being a large congregation. The Rev. J. C. Jamieson, organising secretary of the Bible -Class movement, delivered an address on the growth of Bible classes. lie said the Bible class .membership of -the Presbyterian Church had gone up 300 per cent, within the past five years. There acre now 'altogether 9000 members. Tlie annual -meeting of tlio Presbyterian AVomen’s Missionary Union was held this afternoon, -the Aloderator of the General Assembly presiding. After -tlie >lllllll3l renort was read Aliss Cockin, -late of Aladagascar, gave particulars of tlie conditions in -that island. The Rev. G. H. AlcNeur. of Can-ton, described his labors and experiences there, and ATrs. Afilne, from tlie New Hebrides, told of the spread of Christianity in that group.
