~, MELBOURNE, Nov. 5. a lelfoiiriie Oup day- was favored with lovely weather, there bein'* bright sunlight, tempered with a cool southerly breeze. There was an immense attendance, and the course was in capita! order. Results: Cup Hurdles.—Bribery 1. Red Fly 2, D coring 3. Five others started. Betting: sto 4 against the winner. Won by a length. Time, 6min 46 see.
Railway Handicap.—True Scot 1, Barenjoey 2, Equiforin 3. Fourteen others ran. Betting: 6to 4 against Tangaroa, 7to 4 True Scot. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, lffiin SJsec.
Nursery Handicap.—Bobby 1, Pendi 2, Vavasor 3. Ten others' ran. Betting: 2 to 1 against Wiaisila, 9 to 2 80-bby. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, lunin 9sec. _ MELBOURNE CUP.—Apologue, 7.9, 1; Mooltan, 7.1, 2: Mountain King, 7.6, 3. Scratched: Mazarin, Tan-gq.ro a, Comely, Mira, Juek Smith, Master Foote, and Socialist. Betting: 3 to 1 against Apologue, •1 to 1 Poseidon, 7 to 1 Mooltan. Passing the stand Mountain King was in _ front from Bendigo, then came Spina-way, Mooltan, and Melodrama. Subsequently Lady- Esme, Welcome Trist, and Knox took a hand in carrying on the running, but tho favorites were never far away. Knox was leading round the turn, but surrendered the lead -o Mooltun, Apologue, and Mountain King before the straight was reached-. Moolftan was first to turn for home: then the favorite and Mountain King came at him, and a neck-•and-neck race ensued to the -distance. Here the Aucklander asserted himself, and gradually drawing out won comfortably by- tliree-quaiters of a •length. Tartan was fourth. Time, 3min 27-Jsee. Evans, the rider of the winner, fainted on. returning to the scales, and for a time his condition was thought to be serious, but lie rallied somewhat, and was conveyed to liis home.
Steeplechase.—Oimelot 1, Boisedale 2, Boomerang 3. Eight others ran. Betting: oto 2 Cameloh. Won by four lengths. Time, 4iiiin 121 sec.
Y«in Yean Stakes.—Seddon 1, Charmaiit 2. Toruedi 3. Eleven others ran, Betting: 5 to 2 against Seddon. Won by a length and a half. Time, linin' 121 see.. Encourage Stakes.—Cleis 1, Azurine 2, The Black Dove 3. Ton others started. .Betting: 6to 1 against Olcis. Won in a canter. Time, Imin 31sec.
