WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.
(fHOM OUK COIUUiSI>ONUJ2NT.) WAIPIRO, Oct. 24. A meeting of tho Wadapu County Council was held to-day. Present: Cm. A. B. Williams (chairman), Sherwood, Knox, K. S. Williams. Incoming correspondence was considered as follows: From Minister of Ijunds, Wellington, respecting Tuakau loan, stating ho is obtaining a report on small grazing runs, and hopes afterwards to give proper consideration to Council’s request.—Received. From tho Land Survey Department, Gisborne, asking that Tuakau, AVhakauramga, Wdiakaumu, AVhakauranga, and Pirau j au roads lio marked on tho lithograph forwarded. —Tho Clerk stated that tho request had already been complied with.
From Mr. W. Oates, Tokomaru, asking that tho Council bake steps to place Tokomaru cemetery on a proper basis.—The Chairman proposed that Tokomaru residents bo asked to call a public meeting to appoint trustees, when tho Council will recommend appointments. Seconded by Cr. Sherwood, and carried. From Mr. George Kirk, Port Aw.anui, stating that- on one occasion Dr Davis was -delayed at the ferry, the ferryman attending the Land Count, and requesting in the event of a change that Hori Toman ana ho appointed.—Tho Chairman proposed that charge of tho ferry boat bo given to Hori Temanana for fivo
months at a salary, with a bonus if bliero were no complaints..—Seconded by Cr. Sherwood, and carried. Cr. K. S. Williams proposed that the Government bo approached re taking over tho Tapuawaeroa Valiev road under the Public Works Act. —Carried. The Council went into committee to open tenders. Perry’s tender tor painting bridges was accepted. The Engineer’s report detailing tho progress of works was read and considered. Tho Chairman and Crs. Sherwood, Murphy, and K. S. Williams were elected a committee to deal with the question of metalling. The Chairman proposed that a general rate of nine farthings in the pound be struck over each and every riding in tho County.—Seconded by Cr. Sherwood and carried.
Cr. Knox proposed that outstanding rates he issued. —Carried. The Chairman moved that owing to tho increased rate of insurance,
the Council take the risk themselves. —Carried.
Accounts were passed for payment, totalling £242, and the meeting terminated.
