THE PRICE OF FLOUR.
Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 23. According to Air Peter Virtue, of the Northern Boiler Alilling Company, the present shortage in the world's wheat supply is not likely to be relieved for a considerable time, owing to the failure of certain countries’ crops, the drought in Australia, and other factors. He is of opinion that prices of wheat, and consequently of bread, are likely to remain nucha liged until next Oc>toher. Begarding New Zealand’s new season’s wheat he does not think that it will open at less than 5s 6d, if at that price, if the world’s markets remain as they are. In the face of this rather gloomy outlook it is some compensation to know that Air A’irtue does not think it likely that bread will become any dearer than it is at present. AVith the high price for Hour and forage and the extra amount of money on his books tlie baker, Air Virtue thinks, must be having a bad time. TIAIABU, Oct. 23. The South Canterbury Master Bakers’ Association at a meeting last night- decided not to raise the price of bread unless there Is a further advance in flour.
