A GRATIFYING BALANCE-SHEET
A meeting of the Hospital Social Committee was held last evening in the Borough Council Chambers, the May or presiding. The secretaries presented their report and the balance-sheet, which showed: Receipts £245 7s, expenditure £6l 11s 4d, leaving a net credit balance of £lB3 15s, which, with the Government subsidy of 24s to the £, will yield the very handsome sum of £404 6s 6d to the Hospital. The balance-sheet was adopted on the motion of Mr. AYebb, seconded hv Mr. Rowley. Mr. Townley, in the course of his remarks, commented on the eminently satisfactory balance-sheet. Considering, he remarked, that at t-he time of the social the school was closed for three weeks, owing to the great amount'of sickness amongst the children, all who had assisted might well congratulate themselves on the result.
A special vote of thanks was passed to the Ladies’ Committee who so ably attended to the supper arrangements on Doth nights, also to the New Zealand Shipping Co., through their local manager, Mr. Id. CL Hallamore, For the use of the woolshcd. The thanks if the committee were also accorded to Mr. .3. H. Ormond for the use of his motor-car, ilie Gisborne Private Band, for their services on two nights, Miss Moore and Miss Lang for playing the dance extras, and Mr. Geo. Withers, the foreman of the wool store. Mention was also made of the kindness of the Salvation Army in postponing their Biorama entertainment so as to avoid clashing with the oocia 1.
