PORT AW’ANUI
(from our correspondent.)^
Tho Native Land Court lias been sitting here for about three ryet'ks, and got a lot of disputes settled. AA o only hope it may open up some back country in this district. dhc C has now gone to Tuparoa. A sitting of tho S.M. Court was also held here on Monday, and it was a heavy day’s work for Mr. Barton, who had to suffer the discomfort ot very wet windy weather on lus ride down. the Coast. To-day fine weather promises to set in. . I see some correspondent has been funny at Port Awauui’s expense. He must have been affected by Coast whisky, and thought the dangerous state worse than it was. I nm glad he didn’t seo any rats, nTo all wondering when tho Haupiri intends coming up this way. I recollect seeing years ago in Tuparoa a board stuck up with “Movements of Steamers” posted on it, am! some wag wrote beneath “D— uncertain.” I think it was the most truthful thing about that hoard. I see someone has got the courage to praise a traitor. I think the Indian Government should make an example of him; that is tho feeling here.
