Newton was fixed as the next place of meting of tho Union Conference. Tho Conference passed the following resolution: —“This conference affirms it unabated ' hostility to all forms of gambling as inimical to tho moral wollfaro of tho Dominion, and determines it will never relax its efforts until more stringent laws are enforced against this insidious vice. It deeply regrets that no provision is to he made in tho proposed amendments to the gaming laws for the abolition of license of tho totalisator. It believed the proposal to derive a larger revenue from the totalisator will render its abolition more difficult ; further, it regrets also that the Premier has not embodied in his Bill prohibition of tho publication of dividends from the totalisator, which directly fosters toto odds betting. It re.ioices in the Premier’s proposal to isolate race courses from communication by telephone and telegraph, and to prohibit street betting and betting of minors, and trusts that these amendments will be enacted during the present season, and finally that clubs should bo brought within the scope of the gaming laws.”
