Tile death occurred on Friday evCnng of Mrs. Elizabeth Burns, aged 58, rolect of the fate James Burns, after many years of suffering. The deceased had been for the isat four years practically bed-ridden, and the end came in a peaceful sleep. She leaves two sons and two daughters, who are well-known in Gisborno. The funeral will leavo the residence, Gladstone road, at 2,30 this afternoon. Oil Sunday afternoon the mortal remains of Charles Danfoy, aged 72, who succumbed to his infirmities at the hospital on Friday, were laid in their last resting-place, the funeral cortege starting from the institution. Deceased was formerly connected with the 70th Foot Regiment. The local staff of the Stock Department assembled at noon on Saturday to bid farewell to Mr, Campbell Thomson, who is retiring from the Department after many years’ service. Tho inspector in charge, Mr. Walter Miller, in making tho presentation on behalf of the staff of a handsome arm-chair, referred to. Mr. Thomson’s long and honorable "connection with the Department, and the esteem in which he was held by one and all. They trusted that the gift would serve to recall during his declining years many ple'asait reminiscences of his worthy service in the Department. Mr. Thomson suitably responded, after which those present shook hands with the retiring officer, and conveyed their best wishes for his futuro health and happiness. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin states that Mr. A. C. Begg, well known in public affairs, died yes- - terdav, aged G 8 years. Deceased came to tho colony in 1859, and a few years later took up fanning. In 1866 lie took over tho management of a pastoral firm, and in 1870 he estabr lislied an agency business. Mr. Begg took an interest in public affairs, and was Mayor of Roslyn for several years, also holding a seat on. that Council for some time. At various times ho also sat ou tho Harbor Board, Education Board, Charitable Aid Board, Acclimatisation Society, and Licensing Committee. Deceased toefk a prominent part in church and no-license affairs. He stood for Parliament in 1896 and 1899, but was defeated on both occasions.
