CRICKET. A match, Married v. Single, will be played this afternoon at Tarulieru botwoon teams selected from tho Wanderers and Tarulieru Clubs. A practico match will also be played this afternoon between tho United and To ltau olovens, play to commence at 2 o’clock. RIFLE-SHOOTING. NEW WIND GAUGE. Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct, 11. The new wind-gauge slido mentioned in coni , ;*4ion with the Trentham rifle' meeting is juovidcd with two U notches, one for use with tho leaf | down and one for use 'with the leaf up. Tlio slide is joniod to the elevator slido by means of a dovetail groove, and is capable of being adjusted laterally to allow for wind. A scale is marked on tlio back edge of tho slido, each division of which gives an allowance of 6 per 100 yards. This sliding bar is undoubtedly of very serviceable pattern. The adjustment is easy, quick, and certain. It Will fit on any back sight of regulation size.
THE TRENTHAM MEETING. Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. The draft programme of the Trentliam riflo meeting is now ready, and will be published as soon as approved of. The champion prize, with the belt, is increased to £SO. A special, match for riflo club men, to bo fired simultaneously with tho volunteer match has beon added to tho programme, but otherwise it is on the same lines as last year. If a team is required for Bisley, a special series of matches will bo fired to decide its personnel. Competitors will be permitted to use tho new wind gaugo slide, as provided by the Imperial War Office, and used at tho last Bisley meeting. Tho Government has cabled for a supply. The pull of the trigger can bo reduced to five instead of ten pounds. Some alteration will bo made in tlio targets at 200 and 300 yards. They will bo 4ft, by 4ft., bullseyo Gin, inner 15in, magpie 24in. The inner is divided from tlie bullseyo ,by a faint white line, not visible to tho firer. The range is in excellent order. Many improvements have beon effected during the recess. The firing mounds have been levelled and sown in grass, and where this could not bo done new turf has been laid.
A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. WELLINGTON, October 11. In order, to encourage rifle-shoot-ing, the Government hafe granted £l5O to the Wellington district for the current year. Of this £3O goes to Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne, £9 4s 6d being for volunteers only. SPORTS’ PROTECTION FEDERATION. Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 11. Tho Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union appointed Messrs. G. Dixon and W. Garrard to represent the Union at a conference to be held in Christchurch on November 6tli, to further consider the question of a Sports’ Protection Federation.
