By the Victoria this morning Mr. F. AVastney is to arrive to make final arrangements for the' appearance here on the 16th inst. of'Fullers’Touring Company. . ',, •' In connection with the Methodist Quarterly IMeeting held on Thursday evening, the Circuit Steward (Mr. Spence),, on behalf of .the Church, [) resell ted Mr. C. East with a purse of sovereigns as a slight recognition of his valuable services as organist and choir master. After various member's of the Quarterly ' Meeting had expressed their appreciation pf Ins faithful and efficient labors, Mr. East, in fitting terms, responded to the kindly feelings’ expressed^ A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Mrs. Elizabeth Somervell, widow of . the late Mr. Hendry Somervell, died at an early hour yesterday morning, aged 8? years. Deceased was one of the hardy band of pioneers who arrived in Auckland in the Jane Gifford as far back as 1842. She was a very liberal supporter of the causo of Presbyterianism, and some years ago founded tlie Somervell bursaries, for tho assistance of students in the Presbyterian ministry, and the Somervell 'memorial church at Remuera .is the result of her generosity. Some years' ago elie presented £IOOO to what was known as the- la to Mrs. Cowie’s Home, which lias since been merged into St. Mary’s Homes, Otaliuliu. Deceased is survived by her three'daughters, Mrs. A. R. Hay. of Southland, Mrs. AV. Culpan and Mrs. Ireland, of' Parnell.
