BOWLING.
TURANGANUI club.
The third annual meeting of tho above club was held last evening at tho Record Reign Hotel, Mr. Alatthewson presiding. There was a good attendance of bowlers.
Tho following report was read nnd adopted: In submitting their third annual report and balance-sheet, your committee would congratulate you on tho sound position of tho club. Members will note that the mortgage account has been reduced from £259 5s 4d to £240 16s, although the Bank overdraft has increased considerably. This, is accounted for. by tho fact that all accounts owing against buildings, etc., have been paid, leaving practically no outstanding liabilities, and ilie profit and loss account shows an increase of £22 Is 4d over last year’s amount—it now stands at £144 14s 7d. The working expenses for the year have been fairly heavy, consequent upon the amount of attention given to the green in tho way of top-dressing, etc., but this is not likely to occur again for a while, and we have every reason to believe that we will*this season have a green to play on second to none, and think that members will fully justify tho expenditure. Several competitions were played during the season. Tho one that attracted tho most attention was the one for Mr. Bennett’s cup, which was won by Mr. J. Martin. A most enjoyable series of games took place between the Gisborne club and our club, and, whilst suffering defeat on their green, we turned the tables on our friendly opponents when they visited us, and we have no doubt that if our members give the same amount of devotion to the game this season as in the past we will be quite able to hold our own with the best. Mr. I. S. Simson donated a gold medal for competition this season. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. Geo. Matthewson (reelected) ; vice-president, Mr. D. Hopburn; secretary. Air. O Skeet; treasurer, Mr. M. G. Nasmith; auditor, Mr. C. J. Bennett; committee, Messrs A. Sawyer, J. J. Martin, J. Burke, C. J. Bennett, and C. Morse. The following new members were elected: Messrs F. Buiko, C. J. Parker, C. D. Parker, F. Lysuar, and J. P. Williams.
A notice of motion by Mr. Colley to the effect that the entrance fee be reduced from £2 2s to £1 Is was brought up for discussion, and the meeting decided in favor of the motion, the fee being reduced as desired. The question of a caretaker was left for the committee to arrange. Mr. Colley brought up the question of supplying afternoon tea on Thursday afternoons, and after some discussion on the subject, the members of the newly-elected committee assured those present that afternoon tea would be supplied. At the close of the meeting, the president, Mr. Matthewson, presented Mr. J. J. Martin with the Bennett Cup. which he had been successful in winning last season. Mr. McSkimming was presented with a silvermounted walking stick presented to the winner of the handicap singles.
