GISBORNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Tho monthly meeting of thu Gisborne School Committeo was held last night. Present, Messrs J. Somervell (chairman), G. 10, Darton, H. Bright, A. Sawyer, A. Spence, G. Wildish, Revs. Grant and Griffin, and W. L. File (secretary.) The headmaster (Mr. F. Rowley) reported: Since last meeting Miss Brown has taken up her duties as assistant mistress. The vacancy on the staff caused by the retirement of Mr. Morice has been filled temporarily by Mr. F. Barnaby. Tlie term examinations of the school were held just prior to the holidays. Owing to the sliortago on the staff this work is not quite complete. The annual visit of the inspectors, originally fixed for September 30th, has been postponed to October 23rd.” The Education Board notified that no applications had been received for the position of assistant master now vacant at Gisborne. Before tho vacancy is re-advertised, the Chief Inspector is to report on the question of making tho position open to both males and females.—Received. It was decided to recommend the Board to support tho movement for a uniform standard of school books, to bo produced by the State, and sold at cost- price. Accounts were passed for payment.
