(Notes by “Long Stop.”) The bright blue skies, the greon meadoWß, and the lengthening evenings all speak of cricket, and the whisper lias been heard by the local enthusiasts who aro eager to disport themselves in their snowy flannels and broad panamas in an earnest endeavor to omulato tho achievements of such heroes as W. G. Grace and K. W. Ranjitsinbji. . . . There will bo several changes in the personnel of tho different clubs this season, it being reported that the United Club, the winners of last season’s championship, aro losing the services of Cato and Robinson, who are throwing in their lot with the Wanderers’ Club. In place of these it is reported they have secured two good men in Tucker (Auckland) and Jenkins (N.S.W.). The To Bau Club are losing J. Wack, H. AYack, Goiman, Callan, Cox, and Turner from their Saturday eleven, but have secured Dr. Collins Orpwood, Hooper, Schofield, Baxter, Kisslmg, and EHisou to fill the breach in their ranks. Baxter comes with a big reputation as an express bowler and as a fino left-hand bat. Kissling is another fast bowler, and played for Grafton (Auckland) last yoar. It is also rumored that tho To Rau team has a “dark horse” in tho field, reputed to bo a top-noteker and ono of last year’s Now Zealand’s reps. The AA’anderers’ Club intends putting two teams in the field, an A and a B team. Among the now men reported aro A. W. Rees, A. H. Hodge, Cato, Laurenson, Charles, Fenwick, Goldie, Neale, Robinson, Lasker, Gorman, Glennie, and Harker. With such a galaxy of talent their teams should go very near to carrying off the championship this season.
