An additional length'of the duplicated line, about three-quarters of a unie, was opened for traffic, between YVellington and Petone, yesterday, tuns disposing of the heaviest portion of the whole scheme. The duplicated line now runs from the Hutt to within a mile of Ngahauranga, which station will be reached by the double line by January next. 'The Department proposes to shorten the time for the journey by three minutes from October Ist. The whole work is expected to be completed in 18 months more.
