A. DUNCAN YVINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Press Association. NAPIER, September 16. The N.Z. Golf Club’s championship meeting was concluded to-day, when the final round of the amateur championship of N.Z. was played between A. Duncan and H. B. Lusk. In the first round the play of both for the first nine holes was good, but Lusk was deficient in putting, while Duncan was very effective on the green. The first hole was halved, and Duncan won the second and third. In the next Duncan got into .the mud and lost the hole. The fifth was halved. The sixth went to Duncan by one stroke, and Lusk won the seventh, after Duncan had lost-li good stroke, owing to moving his hall with his hand in order to remove an obstacle. Tho eighth and ninth holes were halved, Duncan being then 1 up. Each did .the nine holes in 44. The tenth and eleventh holes were won by Duncan, and the twelfth was halved. The result was the same at the thirteenth and fourteenth. Duncan won the fifteenth by one stroke, and did the sixteenth in 3 to Lusk s 4. Going to -the seventeeth hole Duncan made a bad second, hut approached on the green in 3 and holed in 4, Lusk missing his put and taking 5 by a fine drive and second. Duncan found the eighteenth green. Lusk hit a tree and took 3 to the oreen. Duncan took 4 to putt, and Lusk 6, the former thus winning the round by 8 out of the 18 holes. Duncan completed the last nine holes in 37, doing the round in 81, Lusk taking 86. Duncan played up to his best form, his putting in particular being very fine. The following are the figures for, the round. Duncan’s score being indicated first: 66, 3—4, 4 — 5, 6 —5, 4—4, 4—5, 7 6, 5 —5, 4—4, 4 —5, 5 —6, o —o, S—4, 4—4, 5—6, 3— i, 4 —5, 4—5. The second half of the fin ll uas played in a heavy shower. The first two holes were halved in 4. Duncan won the third in 4, Lii3k taking o. The fourth was won by Lusk in the putt. In the fifth both were on the green in 2. and each took 2 to not, the hole being halved. The sixth also was halved. In the seventh Lusk got on to the road, but reached the -green in 3. He missed his putt, and Duncan won by 5 to 6. At the eighth hole each player took o, anti the hole was halved. At the ninth Duncan played in 3 and Lusk 4. Duncan'thus won the match jiiul the amateur championship of N.Z., 10 up and 9to play. n ~, The following are the results of the NZ. amateur championship since 1893:

Duncan’s -performance at this meeting constitutes a record which will probably remain unequalled for a long time, lie having the amateur and open championship of N.Z., the amateur bogey handicap, and fourth in tlio amateur medal handicap, and his play throughout the meeting has shown remarkable brilliancy and consistency.
