LAWN TENNIS.
GISBORNE CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club was held on Saturday evening in Townley’s Hall. Mr. W. J. Hawley occupied the chair. The following new members were elected :—Misses O’Donnell, Agnew Brown, Mrs. Preston, Messrs. Arnold, Williams, L. T. (Brown, T. Clarkson, 11. E. Hill, W. E. Cederwall, A. J. Laurenson. The report and balancesheet, which were read and adopted, showed the club to bo in a healthy position financially. The membership of the club for the past season hid been 45 ladies and 45 gentlemen. A number of tournaments had been held during the season, and Mr. Hawley had presented a cup for the championship. An attempt had been made to convert the asphalt court into a grass one, but the continued rain had retarded progress. The court will he ready shortly after Christmas. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr. W. J. Hawley (re-elect-ed); vice-presidents. Messrs. H. Kane, Broadhu-st. Gro. Or.«nt, »T. A. Coleman, and Geo. Lybiiar; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. G. Evins; committee, Messrs. Gover, Blackburn, It. Willoclc, A. T. Coleman, and C. H. McKinnon auditor, Mr. ltuby. With .reference to delegates to the Hawke’s Bay Association, Mr. Blackburn proposed that the secretary be instructed to write to the Hawko’s Bay Association, with a ‘view of selecting two suitable members to .represent tile local body at the Hawko’s Bay Association meetings. M' s D. Bright was asked to ascertain the names of ladies willing to form a ladies’ committee. A letter was received from the Whataupoko Tennis Club, inviting the officers and members of the Gisborne Club to their opeiimg day, which is to he held on Saturday, October 26tli. It was decided to reply accepting the invitatioh, and the secretary was instructed to extend a hearty invitation to the officers and members of the Wbataupobo Club to the opening day oS*the Gisborne Club, which was fixed for Saturday, the 19tli October. A vote of thanks was extended to Mr. Blacicl,ii”ii, the retiring secretary, for the valuable services which lie had rendered the club during 'liis term of office.
