THE MOROCCAN TROUBLE.
FIERCE BATTLE WITH ARABS. United Press Association—Copyright MOROCCO, September 12. General Drude this morning made a reconnaisauce in the direction ol Teddert, • where tho Arabs are encamped- After smart fighting the French tiralleurs, at the point of the bayonet, carried tho high ridges commanding the camp. The red Raid, who was so gallent in the battle of August 31st, made a desperate attack on tho French right flank, but was repulsed. After the artillery had cleared the ground, the tiralleurs and Foreign legion rushed the last crests, and surrounded-the came, which the Algerian goumiers burnt' The Arabs were completely surprised and fled, after firing all the neighboring farms] Except largo quantities of fodder the camp contained little of value. All tho Casablanca loot had been conveyed to tho interior. Tho French losses were small, and those of the Arabs considerable.
FRENCH TO TAKE OFFENSIVE ACTION. PARIS, September 12. M. Clomenceau, interviewed, stated tho Government had requested General Drude to take tho offensive in Morocco, but without indicating any definite operations, inasmuch as they were not competent to indicate our programme. He added: It is known we desire rapid limited operation, leaving no doubt as to its offensive character. COMMENDATION FOR GENERAL DRUDE. Received September 13, 8.1-1 p.m. PARIS, September 13. General Drude’s force from Casablanca before withdrawing marched li miles beyond Teddert. M. Clemenceau regards the operations as excellently conceived and executed.
