THE OVERDUE MONOWAI.

STILL NO TIDINGtS. United Press Association —Copyright Received September 13, 11.20 p.m. SYDNEY, September 13. The Victoria arrived at 9 p.m. She saw nothing of the Monowai. THOROUGH SEARCH TO BE , c MADE. THREE STEAMERS LEAVE SYDNEY. FINDING THOUGHT TO BE EASY TASK. - Received September 14, 0.49 a.m. SYDNEY, September 13. The steamer Kaiapoi left Sydney at 1.30 o’clock this afternoon, and the tug Hero, chartered by the Union Co., left at 6 o’clock to search for the Monowai. They will zig-zag across tho course followed by New Zealand steamers, meeting at given points. The Champion, one of Brown’s tugs, left Newcastle eirly this morning to take up the search. The steamer Wakaitipu, coming up the coast from Eden, is making a circuit on the lookout for the overdue steamer. All departing vessels have been instructed to keep a good look-out. It is considered now that there is little doubt that something Las happened to the machinery. It is thought with the Wdmmera’s report as a guide that it should not be a difficult task to pick up the Monowai. The captain of the Victoria reports that after passing the Three Kings heavy weather with rough seas set in, and continued until yesterday at noon, when it gradually moderated. The wind was first from the north, veered to the south. and south and southwest. He had not the slightest doubt that the Monowai would turn up safely. He thinks with a westerlywind prevailing in the Tasman Sea the Monowai, if broken down, will drift about north-east and north-north-east.
