EDUCATION BOARD.
The following matters of interest to this district came before the Hawke’s Bay Education Board oil Aionday:— Appointments corfirmed: Air. O. R. Olsen, asistant, Gisborne; Aliss E. AI. Ferguson, temporary assistant, Patutalii.
Resignations received: Miss Oreeno, assistant, Te Karaka. Minor requests were dealt with as follows :—■„ Gisborne:—£4 10s granted for fitill g grates; boarding-in of verandah deferred for further consideration; £lO granted for fencing. M-ikauri: Subsidy of £3 10s granted for coal shed. VVliatatutu: Painting to be attended to in due course. AVnipiro Bay: Inspector to report on application for residence. Te Karaka: £4 granted for extra painting. Nuhaka : AA’al'ker trustees to be asked to make a grant: of land up to two acres. Inspector to report on proposed now school. It was resolved: “That, with a view cl obtaining assistance, the. board forwards to the Education Department full particulars of the estimated cost of sewer connections for the Dannevirkc and Gisborne schools, and any other schools in the district about to be connected with town drainage. A motion was carried to the effects “That; in the opinion of this Board, tbo provisions of the Education Act in regard to the election of members of boards should be amended by providing that voting-papers should be posted by the returning officer to each individual elector direct, and not forwarded to the chairmen of School Committees for distribution, as at present provided.” Inspector llill asked for instruction as to the number of school children that should constitute a sufficient attendance to justify the formation of a school district.—To be informed tint the minimum should be 20.
