THE LATE MR. JOYNT.
A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE KING’S COUNCIL. Press Association.
CHRISTCHURCH, September 5. No defended cases were heard at the civil sittings of tho Magistrate s Court this morning as a mark of respect to the late Mr. T. I. Joynt, K.O. A , Shortly after the commencement of the business Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., the presiding Magistrate, drew the attention of the Court to the news of Mr. Joynt’s death. He said that in referring to the death of Mr. Joynt ho was touching a personal matter to them all. He had beon on terms of tho closest intimacy with Mr. Joynt during the past fifteen years and they all know of his ability. It seemed only a few days ago that they had all gathered in the Supremo Court to honor him when he was invested with the dignities of King’s Counsel and became the senior member of the Now Zealand bar. His voice had been raised in loared argument within the Magistrate’s Court and it was sad to think that he was no more. Deceased had always held a high position in the profession and as a mark of respect he (Mr. Bishop) had decided after the cases had been called to adjourn the sitting, placing the facts on the records of the Court. It was the only means of honoring the departed counsel. Mr. W. Hoban tho senior member of the bar prosent on behalf of tho legal profession mado reference to Mr. Joynt and said that ho had looked on him as ono of thof most brilliant members of tho bar in Now Zealand. As a young man ho had frequently beon greatly assisted by Mr. Joynt and there was no doubt that he would bo missed by tho profession throughout the colony. Personally, and lie was sure that the entire Now Zealand bar would agree with him, he had looked on Mr. Joynt as an ornament to tho profession in tho colony and ono of the truest gentlemen. \
