ACCUSED ARRESTED NEAR TOKOMAItU. On a serious charge of assaulting a married woman with criminal intent, a Maori has been taken into custody up tlio Coast. It ajipears from the information to hand that tho wife of a contractor was taking a stroll along the Waipiro beach oil Saturday afternoon, when she w'as accosted by tho Maori, who came up on horseback. Alter the assault, the culprit made off into tho bush. His capturo was entrusted to Constables Mellsop, McLeod, Baker and Native Constable Terata, who were considered to have a difficult task in such country. Notification came through yesterday afternoon, however, that the suspect was arrested at Waima, near Tokomani, oil Tuesday night, by Constable Baker and Native Constable Terata. The accused was taken to Waipiro yesterday, brought before a Bench of Justices. and committed for trial. He will be sent on to Gisborne in tho constable’s charge.
