GAS AND ELECTRICAL PLANTS.
REDUCTION OF DUTY DOUBTFUL. ' (Special to Times). WELLINGTON, September 3. The Mayor of Dunedin to-day saw the Minister for Customs on the subject of tbe proposed duties ou electrical and gas plant. The Minister of Customs did not give much encouragement as to a reduction below 10 per cent, on electrical equipment or that the duty on gas plant for the corporation would be foregone. Notwithstanding the fact that contracts had been completed before the date of the new tariff coming into force, he claimed that every merchant in the colony would be entitled- to the same concession if granted, and in that case the confusion would be endless.
