POUAWA._ August 29 The annual examination of the Whangara Native school took place on Monday last, Mr. Bird being the inspecting officer. It is extremely gratifying to record that out of a full attendance of pupils only one child failed to obtain the required number of marks. The result is most creditable, considering that practically only six months have been available, the school having been closed for three months after last examination owing to the unfortunate indisposition of the teacher, and this year’s inspection eventuating nearly two months earlier than usual.. The achievement, is a meritorious one and speaks well for Mr. Fraser as a teacher and also for the aptness of the youngsters. A large number of Native parents and relatives of the children were present and were highly pleased with the successful issue. The Chairman of the- School Committee made a few remarks exhorting the little ones to still further effort, and was followed by Mr. Bird, who spoke in complimentary terms to all, expressing his satisfaction at " the result of the examination.
