From a scrum in mid-field Gideon passed the hall to Wilkinson, who transferred to Pollock, who, making a lino run, touched down behind the posts. The kick at poal proved fruitless, and the game ended fi all. For the Juniors, Roderick (2), Cramp, Burke. AlcLachlan, Keys, Campbell, and Emanuel played well. For tile Thursday team Wilkinson, Pollock, Knowsley, Gideon c. An sell, Scents, and Cahill were the-most-prominent. Mr. J. J. Martin controlled the game in his usual efficient"‘ manner, while Messrs. Jackson and Smith wore the lino umpires l .’ ‘ " The”' team of thirds from Napier -arrive to-morrow morning and play a match with the Kaiti-City thirds at Victoria Domnin. The match is to start at 2 o’clock, as the hockey matches start at 3 o’clock sharp. Mr. W. Howard has been appointed referee.
OUR TEAM AT NAPIER, (Special to Times.) NAPIER, August 29. Tho Poverty Bay Football Team to play Hawke’s Bay arrived by the Victoria to-day. The game, which will be played on Saturday, is expected to be close. Two or three chances have been made in the Hawke’s Bay team from that which was on tour and this may weaken the combination, as tho men will not have an opportunity of playing togethor before the match.
PROFESSIONALS DISQUALIFIED
Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 29. The management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met. tonight and made soveral disqualifications general, including the life sentence imposed by the Buller Union on a player for striking a referee and others. The names of several players who had played with the professional team were forwarded by Canterbury, Wairarapa and AVanganui Unions. All such players were expelled. The appeal of .the Pioneer Club (Gore) against disqualification by the Southland Union for refusing to .meet AVaikaia on the latter’s ground was disallowed, hut the Southland Union is to be asked to review the circumstances.
INTER-COLLEGIATE MATCHES. Press Association. AA’ELLINGTON, August 29. Tho Christ’s College (Christchurch) football team met AVelliiigton College at Miramar to-day. The game ended in a draw —ono try each. AVANGANUI, August 29. A football match between AA’ellington College and AVanganui College old boys took place this afternoon. AVelliiigton had not a strong team and played substitutes. AVanganui won by 14 to 3. HIGH SCHOOL MATCH.. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, August 29. Tho AA’aitaki High School football team defeated Nelson College at Lancaster Park this afternoon by 9 (two tries and a penalty goal) to nil. SOUTH CANTERBURY BEATS AUCKLAND. Press Association. TIMARU, August 29. Tho match Auckland v. South Canterbury was played this afternoon. The weather was very warm. The attendance was good. The match was a most interesting one, but on the whole the forwards bore the brunt of it, as play was kept very close. Soon after tho kick-off Roddick placed a goal from a penalty. Then Hooper scored a try, which V. Scott converted. At this stage South Canterbury was thus leading by 8 to 0. Murray got the first try for Auckland, which McGee converted, and the first spell ended 8 to 5. In the second spell Murray again got across, but Hall failed at goal. AA’ith the scores equal play wae very strenuous. AVith two minutes to go a scrum took place on the Auckland line, and the ball going out to South Canterbury, Rodgers slipped across. The kick at goal was a failure, and the game ended : South Canterbury 11, Auckland 8.
