ARBITRATION COURT.

FREEZING WORKS MATTERS. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, August 29. The sitting of the Arbitration Court was resumed this morning. The North Canterbury Slaughtermen’s Assistants’ Industrial Union cited a number of employers and asked for an award. The representatives of the companies and the union agreed to accept the Gisborne award subject to the inclusion of conditions relating to holidays included in the slaughtermen’s award. The clause relating to wages was made retrospective, to date from February 19th. The award will have a currency of two years from September 20tli next. The decision of the Court in tho dispute, Gas Stokers’ and Cokers’ Union v. Christchurch Gas Board, was filed witli the Clerk of Awards to-day. The week’s work is to consist of six shifts of eight hours each and a Sunday of twelve hours from r' r " midnight on Saturday to midnight on / Sunday; wages for stokers to be not /' less than 9s 3d for an eight-hour shift and Is 2d per hour for Sunday ijj shifts, overtime at time and a quarjjßPter for the first four hours and time W * and a half thereafter, double time .on Labor Day, Christmas Day, Boxing . Day, New Year Day, Good Friday, SST King’s and Prince of Wales’ BirtliW~ days; the number of retorts to be “ charged in any shift not to exceed 19; \ 24 hours’ notice to be given on either ■ eido and preference of employment to he given to unionists. The freezers’ award, which also came to hand to-day, fixes the day’s work at 8 hours in any 24; wages to be Is 3d per hour; overtime Is sd, double time on Christmas Day and Good Friday and time and a half on other holidays; waiting time to be r avoided as far as possible. Provision • is made for the payment of under-, rate workers and the usual preference clause is inserted.
