An adjourned inquest was hold this t afternoon concerning tlio death of v the illegitimate child of Margaret Hogg,, who was born on August 4tll, and who dieel through suffocation shortly afterwards. A verdict was - returned that death was caused by jJI the neglect of the mother and of tlio JejJ putative father, David Braid, who v f was the only person present at tho - birth. At the inquest lie admitted a / that tho evidence lie had previout^flpl/ given, that lie had iiovor_jJtitt|'l[ proper relations false, and lie with perjurv^H^^HpPr *«ce FALL DOWN A - - STAIRWAY. VICTIM UNCONSCIOUS FOR THIRTY-SIX HOURS. Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 26.. During the passage of the Victoria from Sydney to Auckland Mr. G. W. Binney, a well-known Auckland merchant, met with a serious accident. About 8 o’clock on Friday night Mr. Binney, who had been on deck, came into the social room with a pile of rugs on liis arm. The weather was very rough at tlio time, and when filr. Binney reached the top of tho companion way lie stumbled and fell to the bottom of the stairs where ha was picked up unconscious. Fortunately Dr. Savage was on board and was able to give temporary relief to the sufferer, who was badly cut about the bead. Mr. Binney remained unconscious for thirty-six hours, after which he regained the use of his reason for brief intervals. He is still in a semi-consciou? condition.
