BILL PUT THROUGH THE HOUSE OF LORDS. United Press Association —Copyr'ght Received August 25, 4.52 p.an. LONDON, August 24. Tho Deceased Wife’s Sister Bill passed through committee in the House of Lords. Lord Shaftesbury moved as an amendment that the Bill should he retrospective. Lord Loreburn: You purge parents if they marry again, but it is unmerciful to the children, who are blameless. The amendment- was .finally withdrawn. An amendment was moved by the Archbishop of Canterbury prohibiting Anglican clergy at such marriages. Lord Lansdowne warned the Houss of the serious responsibility it would impose upon itself if the. parties to these marriages were restricted to Registrars. After debate the amendment was negatived by 108 to 68. Lord Twecdmoutli’s amendment, making it optional for a clergyman to allow such marriages in hits church, was adopted.
