HOCKEY.

The selectors (Alessrs. Pavitt, Alartin, and Bushnell) of the local representative team to meet Hawke’s Bay on the 31st inst. mot last evening and made the final selection as follows: —Willock (goal-keeper), Olsen and J. Doyle (full-backs), Pirie, Armstrong, and Grant (halves), Pine, S. Roderick, Hansen, Bright, and Hooper (forwards). The team will meet as soon as convenient to appoint a captain and arrange for practice.

(Notes by “Cleft Ash.”) The selectors are to be congratulated on getting together such a representative combination, and with a few practice matches the team will take a lot of beating. The forward division is particularly strong. Hansen (centre-forward) has been playing very consistentlv all tlrrough the season, and thoroughly deserves his inclusion. Bright, although inclined to play off-side, is a brilliant player, and has been playing as centre-forward for his club. He may find it difficult to keep his I>l ace as inside-for-ward. R. Roderick usee his head and plavs with great judgment. He is inclined to take things too easv. Pune and Hooper on the wings are a pair of ‘‘grafters,” and will not 1)6 found, wanting. The halves, Pirie, Armstrong, and Grant, are clever and fast, and are backed up bv two splendid defensive players in Olsen and J. Doyle. Willock is a goal-keeper of the “barn-door” order, and can be depended on to stop anything.in reason. Taken as a whole the team is the best that could be selected', and it will come as a surprise if they do not record a victory in their match with Hawke’s Bay. * j
