Albertson testified at the inquiry that tlie lights were lit for 16 or 17 nights after leaving New Zealand, but not lighted oil five or six nights, as they were short of oil.- He denied lie had run out of oil on the night of the collision. He stated the lamps were lit that night. AVlieu the lamps were not lit a man stood by ready to light them a.t a moment’s notice. The seaman who was at the wheel between 2 and 3 on the morning of tlie collision stated that tlie lights were burning brightly when lie was relieved.
