A GRUDGED GIFT.

United Press Association—Copyright Received August 20, 11 p.m. LONDON, August 20. Reuter’s Pretoria correspondent wires that the Assembly by 42 to 19 resolved to present the Cullinan diamond to King Edward. General Botha pleaded for unanimity in order to make the gift national. He declared that the Government did not contemplate fresh taxation. Mr. Farrar dissented regretfully, owing to the acute distress amongst the loyal subjects of the King. He felt sure King Edward would prefer to see theso assisted than to receive a gift which, was inopportune and unjustifiable. Tho Labor members supported the Government.
