St. Stephens’ Anglican Church Trustees accepted a tender for building tip, chancel, choir, and vestry rooms to complete the church, at a cost of £I7OO. AUCKLAND, August 20. The Governor and Lady Plunlcet, who is in excellent health, had a pleasant trip, spending a fortnight ill Canada and 10 days in Fiji as the guest of tile Governor, Sir Everard im Tkurn. She was accompanied by the Hon. Kathleen Plunket, Miss Chailmers (niece of the Governor of Fiji), and Captain Hon. N. GathorneHardv, A.D.C. DUNEDIN, August 20. The premises of Hogg and Co., timber merchants, Rattray-street, were entered by burglars last night or this morning. The thieves used explosives in their endeavor to blow open the safe, but this failed, tho only result being to damago the lock to such an extent that it could not be opened this morning. Nothing was stolen. Palmer’s Quarry, at Logan Point, was broken into during the night by thieves. The magazine at the quarry was entered and a auantity of fuse and explosives were taken away. It is supposed that both outrages were tlio work of the same gang. So far no trace of the offenders has been discovered.

AVELLINGTON, August 20. Miss Lena Thompson, the young woman who was injured through her bicycle colliding with a motor car, is much better this evening. She recently came from Dunedin, and lias been * residing with relations in AA'ellington. CHRISTCHURCH, August 20. Mrs. Susan Kenney, a widow, aoed 73, was found dead in bed this morning. An inquest was held this noon. when it was stated that death was due to heart failure. At an inquest held to-day touching the death of Walter Henry, wlio shot himself at Templeton yesterday, a verdict vjis returned of suicide during temporary insanity.
