INDUSTRIES AND COMMERCE

(Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, August 2u. Mr. McGowan presented the sixth report of this Department to Parliament to-day. Comment is made on tho increase in exports and imports. Tho Minister thinks there is room for more systematic and energetic work ill making known the products of this country in Great Britain. Such a step would mean the strengthening of the commercial staff in London. He is convinced that many merchants who do not at the present time handle our products would become buyers if value and facilities for obtaining regular supplies of our goods could be demonstrated to them. Attention is drawn to eight hundred millions of people in the Far East of the Pacific, and- the possibilities of trade with these countries. The report contains a great deal of padding and stale statistics. Mr. Gow’s reports in particular, and also the report of the Produce Commissioner in London, might very well have been condensed, so as to occupy half the space they take up.
