ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY

At the concert to he hold on Friday by the Orchestral Society an excellent programme orchestral items will bo submitted. Von Suppo’s overture, “Light Cavalry,” willbo played. It has all the lightness and dasli associated with the work of this com-

poser, and contains many stirring passages. Tho next item on the programme is tile intermezzo “Quietude (Groph). which is a grotty and skilfully arranged composition. The first part of tlie programme will be brought to a close with a selection from Planquetto’s opera “Rip Van Winkle,” which includes all tho wellknown airs. Tlio second part will open with Haydn’s Symjihony in I) a work of. a bright and vigorous nature. In an arrangement of Schubert’® Andanto and Cavntine, there is an abundance of florid work for tho soloist (Mr. J. Clirisp), and the accompaniment is of an attractive nature. Tlio find orchestral item is the march,. “Viscount Nelson” (Zehle), in which the best effects of orchestration are freely availed of. In addition to the orchestral items vocal contributions will bo given by Te Rangi Pai and Messrs. Kissling and W. Grace. Mrs. Hooper and Miss Mcllhono will act as accompaniments.
